Over the past couple months, I’ve ‘borrowed’ some friends’ kitchens when the urge to cook has simply gotten too strong to ignore and cannot be solved with the single frying pan and burner that is our current kitchen set-up. One such instance happened about a week ago when I met up with my writing partner, Mary, to catch up on work for the book (it’s still coming!). We were emailing to coordinate our work date and when she suggested we cook something together, it took me all of about 2 seconds to respond with a big, “YES.” And I probably did a little happy dance in front of my laptop.

If you live anywhere near the D.C. metro area, you’re probably looking at the title of this post thinking, “Bless her heart; she decided to give us a soup recipe today after we spent the past four or five days in 90+ degree heat with 70 to 80% humidity. That move must be playing games on her.” And I may or may not agree with you on that…the boxes seem to never empty fast enough right now. I have quite a few ideas for posts about the writing process and book process, but today, I want to send you off with a recipe for an easy, really healthy and very delicious salad that is perfect for this time of year. I made it up a couple weekends ago when I saw that I had some rainbow carrots on hand and a whole head of cauliflower that needed to be eaten. Good morning! Can you believe it’s May already? I really feel like just yesterday I was freezing my buns off, had to wear four layers just to walk outside, and only wanted to eat casseroles. Now I’m living in much warmer temps (it’s staying in the 80s all week…crazy!) and want lettuce. Weird. My appetite definitely changes with the seasons and now it’s time for all things green and light.

These lettuce wraps are super easy to make, so I’m not going to spend much time talking about them today as I’d rather you just go pick up some ingredients if you don’t have them handy and try them out for yourself. Monterey Jack and Cheddar Macaroni and Cheese

Hi, all! Happy Monday. How was your weekend? Mine was really fun and productive. I did a mix of errands and fun things like going to the Wizards game on Friday against the Toronto Raptors! It was the first playoff game at home for the Wizards and the crowd was nuts (in a good way). I will be the first to admit that I don’t follow pro basketball, but man, that was an awesome game! I love a great competition and this game was neck-and-neck the entire time. It was fun to watch−and also intense−and luckily, the Wizards came through and won it!
