I honestly had not realized that it had been a month since I last posted! I am sorry for such an absence — life has not slowed down much at all like I thought it would since returning from Europe, but it’s all for good reasons! Many exciting things are happening on my end…lots of progress is being made in creative/freelance projects, the house, wedding planning and work in general. These projects outside of the blog have required more attention over the past month, so that is why I’ve been so silent!
The main one that kept my brain a little zapped out of the blogging mindset is the book! It is in progress – woohoo! And goodness, for someone who likes to write, writing a book is a totally different ballgame.… CONTINUE READING
I can’t believe that three weeks have passed since I last posted – it seems like longer than that to me (which I think is a good thing), and I have missed this little blog and the friends I’ve built around it. That being said, some time away was exactly what the doctor ordered. As I said in a post before we left for our trip to California, our house has a water leak and mold issue that we’re in the process of fixing. I’ve been surprised by how much this has stressed me out and taken over my schedule the past month, but it has been really time consuming to deal with multiple service vendors, coordinate all the schedules, explain what’s happening at the house over and over again (it seems like no one speaks with one another and Ben and I are the only consistent players who knows what needs to get done), and so forth.… CONTINUE READING
Happy, happy Friday! I slept in a little this morning and it was glorious. Instead of the regular Friday Fancies post, I have something a little different for you today. Lauren, a Registered Dietician-in training and blogging friend, who blogs over at Just a Pinch nominated me last week for a Versatile Blogging Award. According to Lauren,
The Versatile Blogger Award is for the blogs that bring something special to your life. In picking your nominees, you are to consider the quality of the writing, the uniqueness of the subjects covered, the level of love displayed in the words on the virtual page.
Lauren, thank you very much for the nomination! It made my day. I’ve answered her 10 questions below and then have 10 questions of my own for a few bloggers to answer from this.
If any of you are interested in getting to know me a little more, then here’s a chance!… CONTINUE READING
Have you all heard about or seen B.J. Novak’s (of “The Office” fame) children’s book called The Book with No Pictures*? Well, this blog post can be compared to that today.
*As a quick side note – this book is very cute and I highly recommend it for any children or upcoming baby showers. I think adults would be just as, if not more, entertained by it than kids. Also, that link is an affiliate link.
Before I left last week for Austin, I had roughly 24 hours after the move to unpack whatever I could and put it away into places that will likely change over the coming weeks as we get more settled. Knowing that I had such a short window of time to focus on getting SOMETHING in order, I went straight to the place that I always try to keep neat and organized. Ironically enough, this is the place that I make some of my biggest messes in: my kitchen.
There is something so calming and cathartic, to me, about tidying up a kitchen.… CONTINUE READING
Might as well start Monday out with a bang, eh? This title slightly terrifies me but is also really exciting. The project that I’ve been wanting to tell you guys about for a month now is….I’m writing a book! It’s not just me who’s writing one as I have a great writing partner-in-crime in this process. But yes, ultimately, I will be part of a duo writing a book under the title of Capital Food and Drink! It is going to be a cookbook and storybook about a wonderful part of the food and drink world in the greater D.C. metro area: Loudoun County, Virginia.
This may seem a little odd as I’m not from D.C. nor am I from Virginia. I’m a Floridian born-and-bred, but I have a penchant for the state of Virginia and the greater D.C.… CONTINUE READING
Hello, hello! I went to a fun event on Tuesday night that I want to tell you all about. If you’ve been reading for a while, you may remember that I’ve been blogging for CAKE&WHISKEY Magazine since this winter. For those not familiar with the publication, it’s a beautiful, beautiful quarterly magazine that focuses on the very broad topic of “women in business.” The people they showcase range from stay-at-home mothers to DIY-entrepreneurs to successful ballerinas to CEOs at major corporations around the globe. And the topics of discussion range from how to juggle a lot of priorities to legal advice if you’re about to hire your first employee. It’s been a really educational magazine for me, but also just a pretty one to read.… CONTINUE READING
