Friday Fancies | Party Weekend Edition

Summer Blooms

Hi, all! I am pumped that it’s Friday for two reasons: first, I’m borrowing a friend’s kitchen this afternoon for the first time since Moldpocalypse happened and am going to COOK something besides a frozen dinner or make a salad. {Angels sing, clouds part, a rainbow and unicorn emerges…}. It’s going to be glorious. Secondly, it’s the start of what will surely be a very fun weekend. This week, a great couple I know got engaged, another friend is celebrating his 30th birthday and then I’m saying bye temporarily to a few friends who are moving out west to start new adventures. It’ll be action packed, and of course Captain Humidity decided to return today after a beautiful couple of days in the DC area, but it should be very fun!

I know this blog has been a little boring as of late and as much as I feel like I should say sorry for that, I honestly don’t feel the need to apologize as this is a creative outlet for me and sometimes you (or me, I guess) just need to take breaks. My energy is turned more to my house and a few different projects rather than here right now. I feel like this summer has been one of the busiest I’ve had in a while, and I’m excited for a little slow down in another month or so. I do have a list of things to write about on here (including a California recap which is overdue!) and I’m hoping to start checking a few of them off in coming weeks. So, thanks for your patience!

For now – I’ll leave you with some fancies for your weekend. Hope you have a fabulous weekend.

To all the female readers (especially those in the 20s-40s category) – I highly, highly recommend that you listen to this podcast interview between Jess Lively and Alisa Vitti of Flo Living.  I am a huge fan of Jess Lively (see my Cake & Whiskey post here about some of my favorite podcasts!) and her work on values and intention and every week, she interviews a different person about how they live in line with his or her own values. This podcast from a few weeks ago was eye opening to me. It teaches you to understand how to optimize hormones to improve every aspect of your life (relationships, work, nutrition, stress, fitness, sex, etc.). I am super intrigued by this topic after listening to it and just felt like it was worth sharing. Would love to hear feedback on what you think if you listen to it!

A simple choice between two gorgeous photographs reveals your personality. Can anyone guess which one I lean toward? Maybe this post and this Q&A post will give you a hint.

I am pretty certain that if you’ve watched the news or been online in the past 48 hours, then you’ve seen Tom Brady’s courtroom sketch. Maybe you haven’t seen these spoofs, though?

The best type of egg for every sad dinner. ← I think this article was written for me! I don’t think all my dinner with eggs are sad, but it does give me some new ideas on how to spice up leftovers. My favorite quote…“If you’re reduced to eating toast for dinner, I’d go with a scrambled egg. Scooping eggs onto your toast will give you something fun to do to distract yourself from your empty shelves. Also scrambled eggs on toast is really one of the best things on earth.” Amen to that!

Just found out that Mindy Kaling, who has a great guide to killer confidence, has a new book coming out (woohoo!) and that she’s going to talk about it in D.C. on Sept. 17th. Bad news: tickets sold out in less than 30 minutes. Womp womp. Maybe someone will sell them in return for a chocolate whiskey cake

This avocado and lemon zest pasta has my name written all over it and may be what I make this afternoon!

Happy weekend, everyone!

    1. Thanks! I can’t take credit for them…I have to thank my neighbors down the street, haha! They have a green thumb for sure. Have a great weekend as well!
